Dynamic Analysis and Safety Assessment of Ships and Cables during Salvage Operations

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) emphasizes that shipwreck accidents frequently occur at sea and advocates for the safe recovery of shipwrecks. This paper examines case Korean “Sewol” ferry salvage, where two lifting barges were symmetrically utilized to retrieve a substantial shipwreck. dynamic analysis salvage operation is based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. main investigation covers fundamental physical parameters: motion response tension cables. Using parameters maximum absolute value (MA), root mean square (RMS), coefficient variation (CV), unified criterion established quantitatively evaluate safety under different working conditions. study demonstrates by carefully considering enhancement stability three vessels involved in process optimizing performance cables, suitable operating windows are determined wave intervals (115°, 155°) (205°, 245°).
